Grass courts
These
are now looking fantastic after lots of wear during the last 2 poor
summers - a huge thank you to our groundsman Anthony who has worked
very hard to repair these. We will open these next month
meaning that we will have 4 courts to play on.
Court closure
We have been advised that the final surfacing of
the court will take place on Monday 19 April. To ensure that
the new surface isn't damaged, this means that the courts will be out
of action until Friday morning as the new surface needs 3 days without
anyone walking on them.
Tennis coaching
Please
note that the kids tennis coaching is now running at 3:30 to 6pm on
Fridays which means that 2 courts will be out of action during this
period. If you would like further details about coaching,
please contact Lorna Taylor on 01332 881665.
Damage
to the fencing
You
may be aware that people have been climbing into the tennis courts and
the police have been informed of this - they have advised that they are
very keen on acting on this kind of problem and if you have any
information regarding who may be causing this damage, please would you
advise any member of the committee - or reply to this e-mail.
Blood incident
A
second, hopefully more innocent incident has also occurred at the
courts. A circle of dried blood of about 10cm in diameter has
been noticed near the bottom of the new steps. What is
concerning is that there is also a rock nearby with an amount of blood
on it. We have advised the police, and they have taken a swab
of the blood for analysis. The analysis is an
expensive process however, and the Police have asked us to enquire if
any member knows of any injury that caused the blood, or indeed if
anyone has seen anything else suspicious or otherwise.
Court keys
We
now have new keys and tags for the 2010 season. In light of
the above problems, Anthony has just changed the lock on the upper gate
to the grass courts, which was accessed by the old blue keys.
I will hand deliver a new red tag key for your use in time for the
reopening of the court on Friday and will collect your old blue key in
return. Please note that if you have not yet renewed for
2010, you will not be able to access the court from now on, we do
however still require the blue tags back so that we can use these in a
future year.

Smalley Lawn Tennis Club – a local
hidden gem awaits you.........
Would you like to improve your fitness, meet new
friends, relax and unwind, enjoy family time, improve your game or
would like to learn tennis – all in beautiful surroundings and whilst
supporting your local community?
Smalley Lawn Tennis Club has been re-launched and
wishes to welcome new members.
Situated off Dobholes Lane, Smalley, next to the
park and Cricket Club, the tennis courts were originally donated by the
Owners of Stainsby Hall for recreational use by their servants.
A tennis club for the use of the local community has been voluntarily
run since the end of World War Two, but has unfortunately been in
decline for the past 18 months.
Not wishing to lose this treasured, historic local facility and seeing
the numerous benefits it can bring, four local families are
endeavouring to make the Club thrive again.
Facilities include: two exceptionally well
maintained grass courts, one hard court (which hopes to be re-laid
within the next year) nearby parking and free on-line court booking.
Club house facilities are also available for use at Stainsby Hall
Cricket Club and coaching can be arranged for adults and children as
individuals or groups. Several social/fundraising events are planned
throughout the year.
Memberships costs £45 per year for single
court usage or £60 for two court usage. There is no charge for the
games you play.
Download a membership form here or pick up an
Application Form at Smalley Post Office or The Flower Shop, Horsley
Woodhouse.
We hope you share our enthusiasm and look forward
to your support and welcoming you!
With sincere warm regards, The Smalley Lawn Tennis
Club Committee.
